Amtico Fitted in Conservatory in Farnborough

IMG_0663 IMG_0662 IMG_0661

As the warmer weather slowly begins to arrive, homeowners can start to enjoy their conservatories! We recently fitted Amtico flooring to a lovely conservatory and kitchen in the Farnborough area.

The quality finish and dark shade of the Amtico floor really adds some contrast to the rest of the home. Our client was delighted with the results and can’t wait to get out in their freshly floored conservatory this summer.

Obviously, it’ll be too cold to be in the conservatory in the winter though, right? Wrong! Before we fitted this floor, we installed under floor heating. Now this conservatory can be used all year round. Good shout!

Cleaning Services Lacquered floors

Cleaning services

As I am sure you are aware your new flooring needs to be cleaned and maintained regularly in order for it to continue looking fantastic for years to come.

At Lloyd Marsden we offer a discounted annual cleaning and maintenance service when you purchase your new floor. We can carry this out at any time of year or bi-annually extra protection.

Why lacquer your wooden floor?

To keep Lacquered wooden floors looking their best it is important to keep the surface protection topped up.  This keeps up the level of protection on the floor stopping it being engrained with dirt and patina. If the lacquer breaks through and bare wood is exposed then the whole floor will have to be sanded back to bare and re-sealed, a very lengthy and costly process.  By re applying lacquer yearly your floor will never need fully sanding and will look fantastic year on year.

The process

The process is quite time consuming to achieve the desired outcome.

You must make sure that all furniture is removed from the room before commencing cleaning.

We scrub clean the floor using a rotary floor-cleaning machine and soap based cleaner.

Then we mop the floor several times and leave it to dry.

After this, we lightly sand the floor using 120grit sand paper on a multi head finishing sander.

Finally, when the floor is sufficiently dry we apply 1 coat of Bona Mega lacquer (in your desired sheen level) to the floor, leave three hours to dry, then the floor can be once again trafficked.

Our Service

We offer this service at a square meter rate of £15.00 inc vat when purchased with your new floor.

Normally this service is priced at £20.00 inc vat per sqm when purchased after.

If you do decide to purchase the cleaning package with your floor, we will also continue to offer you the cleaning service at a rate of £15.00 per sqm there after.

How to do it

When you pay your deposit, simply ask for the cleaning package to be included in your final bill.  This will be added to your quotation and you will pay it along with the final balance on completion of your new floor.

LVT (luxury vinyl tile) floors such as Amtico, Karndean, Vusta, Project Floors all need to be dressed annually in order to keep the wear out warranty valid.   This can be quite a long process as the floor needs to be fully striped of all cleaning product residues, then cleaned again and dried. Only then can three coats of Dressing be applied (1 hour drying time between coats) in alternate directions.

Hi, I’m Gavin from Lloyd Marsden and we are market leaders in marketing innovation.

Lloyd Marsden are constantly striving to find the next trend in flooring, and we have been lucky enough to be way ahead of our competition with concreate.

B is for Broadloom

So I here you ask what is broadloom, in nutshell carpet that is either 4 or 5 meters wide, which is pretty much every carpet.

We supply and fit only quality carpets from great manfacturers and not mass produced Chinese rubbish that you will find in carpet right, it’s always 60% off because that’s how much it’s worth, and in most cases even that is expensive.

We deal with the… wool carpet company, jacaranda, new way, crucial trading all what we call in the trade better end carpets, not too expensive just good quality.

We have fitted carpets for aspire defense in the new build Aldershot garrison senior officers mess with an area over 2200 Sqm, Asperion hotel in Guildford, totalling 300 Sqm, several new build properties each worth in excess of £800,000 and of course thousands of residential homes in and around Surrey and Hampshire.

H is for Hygrometer

H is for hygrometer or moisture meter

A short story for you:

“Hi mister floor fitter, we just had an extension done, screed is nice and dry, we would like a wood floor fitted.”

“when was the screed laid?”

“Oh over a month ago now, feels really dry though”

“Yep should be fine, I can fit you in next week”

“Fine lets go with that then”

Two months later:

“Hi mister floor fitter, our wood floor you fitted has a big lump in it, it seems to have all risen of the sub floor, we got an independent inspector out, who tested the screed for damp, and guess what its damp over 90%”

Market research recently revelled that 60% of flooring companies do not check every job for damp before they fit.

To avoid this call with Lloyd Marsden we inspect every job for damp before we fit, on site inspection and immediately before fit, ensuring it is below 75% rh ,relative humidity no lumps or bumps, no creaks or gaps, just great floors and happy customers.

You’ll remember the quality long after you have forgotten the price

January 2013 News Letter

Well it’s been all change at Lloyd Marsden, we have finally moved to our new premises in Crondall, nr Fleet. After many very late nights painting, fitting new floors including Amtico,  Karndean and solid oak to our fantastic showroom we are finally finished, well we were on the 27th October 2012. The reason for our move was twofold, one to obtain more storage and showroom space at the same time as cutting our overheads in order to be able to offer our customers better deals and prices, as simple as that really.

The new showroom needing a little work

This could take sometime

Our ethos has become very green and environmentally friendly, all our heating is provided by two wood burning stoves that burn our waste wood flooring from installation. One stove is 24 kw and incorporates a boiler inside it that provides our central heating and hot water. We also burn recycled wood pellets when we do not produce enough waste material ourselves, so we have no reliance on fossil fuels, and a vast reduction in the waste we send to landfill.   All our lighting has been changed over from halogens to led’s, we now use a tenth of the electricity we were using in lighting our showroom.

Our purpose built Amtico Signature and Amtcio Spacia Showrrom

Our wood burning stove in the showroom gives a real homily feel, roaring away in the back ground whilst our customers browse our vast range of flooring.

We now have the full range of Amtico Signature and Amtico Spacia, all the Karndean range, all the Vusta vinyl range, V4 Wood Flooring complete range, Kersaint Cobb complete wood range, carpets from New Way, Wool Carpet Company, Jacaranda, and really way too much to list.  If it goes on a floor and is good quality then we can supply and fit it.  A recent addition to our showroom is our bean to cup coffee machine, we bought this because my wife, Rosanne who runs the showroom, loves coffee, well real coffee anyway. It is really for customers (along with the mints in the bowl, Rosanne!) but it keeps my wife smiling so that has to be a good thing. Our whole ethos is about loving our customers, from the free coffee, tea and mints to the homily feel of our showroom, our fantastic customer care, expert fitters, and our reduction in cost, it’s all for you.

So other than that what have we been doing. Well November and December were crazy as usual with work and the inevitable last minute “I need it done before Christmas” customers. We have fitted over 2000 Sqm of wood flooring, 1500 Sqm of vinyl and over 2100sqm of carpet in November and December alone, so quite busy you might say. Our feedback scores on Checkatrade still remain at 9.6 out of 10 across the board for tidiness reliability, value for money and workmanship, so despite the amount of flooring installed the quality still remains the same, as ever.

It’s money nothing, well champagne for nothing anyway!!!

So to close we hope all is well with you and yours and thank you for being our customer, without you there would be no us!

DIY – Don’t

If you have toothache you go to a dentist, if you feel unwell you see your doctor, if you car wont start you call a mechanic, for every eventuality in life there is someone who specialises in that field in order to fix the problem. So why is it that when people are using a general builder they feel it appropriate to entrust the “said builder” with specialist tasks that are outside of his skill set. Moreover, why does the builder give the customer the impression that he is a specialist in everything.

This is not a lecture just advice from someone who knows what can go wrong when you ‘give it a try yourself’ or ask someone else who is not a professional in that field to carry out the work

Believe it or not certain elements of flooring are actually pretty complex, and we are still learning every day about new and improved ways of installation and advancements within the industry.

We work with some very competent builders such as Rees Homes Ltd and most will try to be very helpful when it comes to extras such as fitting flooring or tiling, painting etc. But you should remember builders are not specialists in every field, most fit neatly in the pigeon hole of general builder, with only a few are maybe a little more specialist.

When it comes to flooring whether it be sticking down solid oak, latex levelling, damp proof membranes, the builders we work with know that a specialist will save them time, put a real finishing touch to their build and ultimately save them money as any snags will be addressed by the flooring specialist and not the builder.

If you’re having  building works carried out or an extension at the moment you probably think your builder can do everything or at least he has told you he can, but please don’t be naïve, flooring is a specialist job, as is electrical work and plumbing, you would not let your electrician or plumber fit your floor so why would you let your builder do it. I have always said that if had pound for every time a customer has come to me and said ‘my builder fitted my floor and it’s all coming up now’ I would be a millionaire, don’t get me wrong some builders do know what they are doing but more often than not they are taking chances with your flooring and subsequently your hard earned money.

Solid oak floors also need specialist installation, you can’t just go and buy solid oak, or even engineered oak flooring from a local diy center and fit it yourself the same day, it must be allowed to acclimatize for at least 7 days (48hrs for engineered). It must be permanently fixed to the subfloor by either secret nailing or fully bonded adhesive to a sub floor that is clean, sound and dry and flat to within plus or minus 2mm over 1800mm . It must be strap clamped during installation to ensure it stays tight together and most important of all expansion gap, expansion gap, expansion gap, minimum 10mm at any point where it meets an obstacle. Unfortunately unless you’re an expert in flooring you would not know this, most diy center staff don’t know this so dont rely on them for advice. Even knowing the above wont ensure a good job, however experience does, don’t DIY,  it’s not worth the risk, it will cost you in the long run when the flooring has to be removed and re installed by a professional.

When it comes to Amtico or Karndean flooring, only an approved fitter should install these products. This is because Amtico and Karndean will only warranty their products if its fitted by an approved installer, if there are any warranty issues then the suppliers and fitter need to be on site before any warranty inspection can take place. This holds true if you purchase the product on the internet, your supplier would have to be on site for any warranty issues to be resolved as well as your fitter. Your fitter (if it is a shop) will be more inclined to help you if they have supplied the product, most shops will not fit a product you have purchased elsewhere, this is because they cannot guarantee if it is genuine (there are plenty of fake products on the internet, flooring is actually one of the most copied!). Chinese factories have become experts at passing of substandard products on the internet, they look the same, are packaged the same, but are made from substandard materials and because they are fake there is no warranty.

I guess it comes back to what we started with , flooring can be a huge part of your overall budget when you are putting on an extension or simply replacing your floor coverings. You would not by a car without looking at it, or furniture, or really anything else for that matter, so why risk it with your flooring, its just not worth it

Go to a reputable shop where you will get expert advice from people who know the industry inside out, they will supply and fit genuine products which will be installed by craftsman, we cannot speak for all flooring shops, however if you visit Lloyd Marsden we guarantee this to be the experience you will have.
